The COVID-19 Assessment Center will close on September 30 and services will be transferred to the Pinebush Road Vaccination Clinic.

The COVID-19 Assessment Center on Holiday Inn Drive will close at the end of the month.

While the center, at 215 Holiday Inn Dr., has temporarily closed in the past due to a strange smell on the property and staffing issues at Cambridge Memorial Hospital that forced a staff recall, the permanent closure means that services will now be transferred to Pinebush Roadside Immunization Clinic.

The clinic, located in the former RONA building, reopened on September 26 to accommodate adults 18 and older who became eligible for the COVID-19 bivalent booster.

The Pinebush Road location will, from October 1, be considered a one-stop location for COVID-19 purposes, with assessment and testing to be carried out. The Holiday Inn Assessment Center won’t be the only closure, as centers run by Grand River and St. Mary’s Hospitals will also close theirs.

“The reason is to consolidate COVID resources into one site to make it more efficient – one place for assessment, treatment and prevention (vaccination) – without the patient needing to drive somewhere else if they need to. anything else,” said CMH’s Stephan Beckhoff. communications manager, in an email.

“All of our staff are returning to their duties at the hospital, once the assessment center closes on Friday. We are very happy to have them back.”

The new Regional COVID-19 Care Pilot Clinic will be operated by Grand River Hospital and supported by all regional hospital partners.

“The regional clinic will provide COVID-19 tests and medications, while public health will provide COVID-19 vaccines, allowing separate hospital clinics providing these same services to close and focus on patient care,” said said Vickie Murray, integrated director of pharmacy services at Grand River and St. Mary’s Hospitals.

“We will continue to seek a more central location to ensure that all local residents can access this proactive and comprehensive care.”

The new Pinebush Clinic will open by appointment only on October 1. Information on hours of operation and appointments will be available on the hospital’s websites on September 30.
