Business leaders gathered in Rhinelander on Monday to celebrate the grand opening of a new hotel.
The Holiday Inn Express & Suites will offer 99 rooms at its location just off Highway 17 near the Rennes Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Construction is just beginning, but it should be finished by next July, in time for the peak tourist season.
“We know, having built businesses here and raised families here, that we have always needed improvements in our temporary accommodations called hotels,” says Tim Thorsen, an investor in Hodag Hospitality Group. “We hope we can be proud to bring, whether it’s a future employee interviewing in the area, or someone staying at the dome, or in the ice zone, or in town, that we can make them stay at a facility that Rhinelander can be proud of. »
Rhineland Mayor Kris Hanus says the development is a promising sign for the city.
“This is the first hotel in over 20 years to be erected in our beautiful city,” he said. “When this is complete in about nine months, it will be a great asset to the hospitality industry, the school district and anyone who wants to come here to play and enjoy our beautiful town in the Northwoods.”
A new hotel may not be all that awaits Rhinelander.
Thorsen says he is considering opening a bar and restaurant near the hotel and several new businesses along the freeway stretch.
He says he hopes the area will become the commercial hub of North Rhineland business.
