Holiday Inn owner IHG strikes deal with Unilever to reduce plastic use

June 20 (Reuters) – IHG (IHG.L) is joining forces with British consumer goods group Unilever (ULVR.L) to supply body washes, shampoos, conditioners and other products bathrooms, the owner of the Holiday Inn said Monday. , as it strives to eliminate single-use plastics by 2030.

Plastic pollution, particularly in the world’s oceans, has become a major global concern and in March the United Nations reached an agreement to create a global treaty that could limit the production and use of single-use plastics by the countries. Read more

The owner of Crowne Plaza, Regent and Hualuxe said he expects the move to full-size miniature formats will eliminate the use of at least 850 tons of plastic per year in his Americas region alone.

Companies from consumer product makers to airline operators are scrambling to ditch single-use plastic, and in 2018 IHG announced plans to remove plastic straws from its hotels.
