Australia’s first Holiday Inn Express and Suites property opened on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on Thursday, with business leaders joined by Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson and local councilor Peter Cox for the ceremony official inauguration.
The result of a partnership between Pro-invest Hotels and IHG Hotels and Resorts, the new property offers a mix of suite-style rooms and regular hotel rooms – a first for the Holiday Inn Express brand in Australia.

The 181-room Holiday Inn Express and Suites Sunshine Coast hotel includes 41 one-bedroom suites with kitchenettes, small living rooms with sofa beds, and pod coffee machines. Standard rooms also feature desk nooks, premium bedding, while all guests can take advantage of the brand’s Express Recharge concept which includes a choice of pillows, blackout blinds and power showers.
Mayor Jamieson said the opening marks another milestone for the region’s emerging central business district and the Sunshine Coast.
“This hotel is an important part of the growing downtown district of Maroochydore and its completion comes at a time when we are enjoying the return of domestic and international travelers after a very difficult few years,” he said.
“The Holiday Inn Express and Suites will continue to drive our economy as our region remains firmly in the spotlight as a location of choice for vacationers and for businesses looking to establish, relocate or expand.
Sustainability is a key objective for the hotel which has energy efficient equipment and systems and low water flow fixtures installed in all guest rooms. The property is aiming for a high NABERS Energy and NABERS Water rating.
As part of IHG’s A Greener Stay initiative, guests can also opt out of housekeeping services when staying two or more nights to reduce their impact on the environment.
