Windsor and Maidenhead local plan to be debated at a Holiday Inn

The Royal Borough local plan is due to be adopted next week… but it will not be debated in the usual place.

After more than a decade of work, the 2013-2033 local borough plan, which provides for thousands of housing units across the borough, will be studied by councilors on Tuesday, February 8.

However, it will not be debated in the council chambers or the Desborough Theater in Maidenhead Town Hall.

Instead, the extraordinary full council meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Maidenhead.

A council spokesman said: ‘We have deliberately chosen a large location with plenty of parking space, given the significant public interest. The most convenient way to watch is live via YouTube at but if people wish to attend in person, please take a negative sidestream test beforehand and consider wearing a face covering .

“Public seating is still limited to around 170, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment. Members of the public who have submitted questions in advance will have reserved seating available should they wish to attend the meeting in person.

In town hall, campaigners from the group Maidenhead Great Park are set to oppose the plans and urge councilors to reject the major document.

Tina Quadrino, a senior member of Maidenhead Great Park, said: ‘Our council is using outdated figures on housing need in our area to justify destroying our green spaces. They say there is nowhere to build, but any development should focus on brownfields and there are plenty of them in our borough.

The extraordinary meeting will start at 7pm while the protest will take place outside Maidenhead Town Hall at 6pm on the same day.
